Hydrotherapy
What is hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is gentle, supported exercise in warm water. The water helps take pressure off joints while still encouraging muscles to work — which is brilliant for rebuilding strength safely.
Book a Hydro consultAt STAR Rehab Referrals we use a specialist underwater treadmill, so we can adjust the water depth and speed to suit your pet. Everything is carefully supervised by our trained team, and your pet is supported throughout.
How hydrotherapy can help
Hydrotherapy is often used to:
- Support recovery after surgery or injury
- Build strength without overloading joints
- Ease stiffness and improve comfort
- Improve balance and coordination
- Support fitness and conditioning in active dogs
Many pets really enjoy it — and often start to feel the difference after a few sessions.
When hydrotherapy is helpful
Hydrotherapy can be useful for:
- Post-op recovery (e.g., cruciate surgery, fracture repair)
- Arthritis, hip/elbow dysplasia, joint problems
- Weakness or reduced fitness
- Neurological conditions
- Weight management and conditioning
- Mobility support for older pets
What to expect
Before starting, your pet will have an assessment with one of our physiotherapists (or our vet if needed). Sessions last 30 minutes and we encourage you to stay and get involved in the session. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do any work!
