Arthroscopy
What is arthroscopy?
Arthroscopy is a “keyhole” way of looking inside a joint using a tiny camera and specialised instruments. It lets us assess structures like cartilage, ligaments, the joint capsule, some tendons through very small incisions providing us with the information necessary to make a diagnosis.
Book an Arthroscopy consultHow can arthroscopy help pets?
Arthroscopy can:
- Give highly detailed information where other imaging can’t
- Reduce the need for larger incisions
- Support a smoother recovery
- Help us tailor rehab more accurately afterwards
When is arthroscopy useful to pets?
It can help investigate/manage:
- Shoulder issues (including biceps involvement)
- Stifle problems (including meniscal injury)
- Persistent joint pain/lameness
What to expect
Arthroscopy is carried out under general anaesthesia, with full monitoring and advanced pain management throughout.
Small (typically 2–4 mm) incisions are made to insert the arthroscope and instruments. The joint is flushed with sterile fluid to improve visibility and remove debris.
Your pet will be able to go home the same day, and a tailored rehabilitation plan will be developed by our physiotherapy team to support safe, effective recovery.
Arthroscopy provides a window into the joint, allowing precise diagnosis, less invasive treatment, and a quicker return to comfort and mobility.
